Helena from ASC delivered a 1 day training course on adolescent contextual safeguarding to staff at our children's care home. The course was tailored to our needs and all that attended commented on the passion in the delivery of knowledge and information. Everyone learnt a great deal and it was a refreshing break from standard and online safeguarding courses that flood our industry.

Thanks Helena for your time and helping us to improve our knowledge and skills in keeping children safe.

Testimonial

ASC provided our dance charity a really helpful, interactive and insightful training session. They tailored the training session to ensure that it was relevant to the work that we do and encouraged ourselves and teachers to consider how we can support young people who have experienced trauma in our dance workshops. The balance of information and exploration encouraged reflective discussions within the group.

Get to know Helena

As co-founder of the Adolescent Safeguarding Consultancy (ASC) Helena brings a passion for both safeguarding adolescents and training professionals. Whilst a student, Helena volunteered as a Special Constable, realising her passion for protecting the most vulnerable members of society. This led to a career in the youth justice service, supporting young people at risk of harm and offending. Whilst in this role, Helena was exposed to the innovative approaches of contextual safeguarding, deepening her knowledge of this when participating in the first cohort of training delivered by the Contextual Safeguarding Network. Helena became accredited to deliver contextual safeguarding courses to multi-disciplinary professionals, providing bespoke training to professionals and community voluntary groups for several years.

As a specialist adolescent social worker, Helena holds frontline experience of the application of contextual safeguarding, playing an instrumental role in the development of a bespoke adolescent service and leading contextual safeguarding initiatives in her employing Local Authorities. Having recently undertaken a regional role as the Contextual Safeguarding Advisor she supported education provisions in responding appropriately to extra-familial harm and peer-on-peer abuse. This furthers her solid foundations of an Undergraduate Degree in Social Psychology and a Masters Degree in Advanced Social Work Practice.

Having spent her career working in the field of safeguarding young people from exploitation and reducing their risk of entering the judicial system, Helena specialises in reducing the risk to adolescents outside the family home whilst also upskilling others to do so.

Helena is passionate about sharing this knowledge of innovative safeguarding approaches with professionals, families, and communities, providing them with the tools and confidence to effectively safeguard vulnerable children as they navigate the complexities of adolescent development crossing the threshold into adulthood.
